    About the Course

    This course will cover furnace tune-up procedures for modern, direct ignition furnaces.  We will cover general furnace sequence of operation for the modern direct ignition furnace and:

    How to perform a furnace tune-up 80% efficiency and 90% efficiency.

    • Checking the air filter, gas pressure, blower capacitor.
    • Cleaning the flame sensor, burners, crossover ports, drain trap, air intake screen, pressure switch.
    • Measuring flame current Micro amps and the flame sensor.
    • Adjusting gas pressure on the gas valve.
    • Temperature rise measurement, total external static measurement.
    • Ohming out the HSI ignitor, Silicon Carbide, Silicon Nitride.
    • Performing Amp draw measurements on the furnace, combustion test/Orstat test.

    Also, post tune-up checks, ECM motor overview, and PSC motor overview.

    About the Instructor

    We are pleased to work with Chad Murphy, on this program (and a sister program planned for this Fall on heating).  Chad is the lead instructor of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning at Hennepin Technical College, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

    Attendees also receive pencils/pens, notebooks, handouts, and a “Super Cool Slide Rule” for calculations during class and to keep and use in the field.  Lunch is included.

    Why Attend This Program?

    Puron Advance systems are on the horizon. This course equips HVAC technicians and businesses with a comprehensive understanding of the latest Puron Advance refrigerants. In this class, we will cover the differences between A2L refrigerants and the old refrigerants, and how the new refrigerants will impact the service and maintenance of HVAC equipment.

    We will have the new Puron Advance equipment on display for technicians to examine. Additionally, we will inform you of new safety protocols for handling, installing, and maintaining A2L refrigerant systems.

    About the Instructor – Mike Breen

     Mike Breen has been in the HVAC industry since 1994. He served as a service manager for an HVAC contractor for 15 years before joining Auer Steel in January 2018 as the Technical Support & Training Manager for Wisconsin. Currently, he is the Senior Manager of Technical Support, Training, and Warranty. Mike is also a technical advisor for NATE, taught HVAC part-time at MATC in Madison for three years, and has been involved with the Wisconsin ABC Skills Competition HVAC division since 2009.
